Map check. The Fremont-Gannett Peak 15' topo maps were made in 1906. The region was not resurveyed until the 1970's, after this course. In 1906, maps were made by USGS people on horseback, surveying key points, and sketching in the rest. No aerial photography, no GPS. As a result, there were some very interesting differences between the maps and the real terrain. For example, there wasn't supposed to be a sheer dropoff at this point.
