- Of course, the views were so wonderful that even the weight of the packs were worth it. Two members of our group had a couple of the first commercially available packs like everyone uses today. I remember that one was an Alp-Sport because I bought one as soon as I got home. We all took turns trying it on to see how it compared with what we were carrying. Bad idea! Padded shoulder straps, a frame that conformed to the human shape! What will they think of next?
